Biography

Contribution to SA theatre, film, media and/or performance

A member of the Cape Town based rederijkerskamer called Aurora II (1866-1887), he both acted for them and wrote some Dutch plays, including Huzaar en Pandoer (a translation), Het Testament voor eene Slavin () and possibly Een Misverstand (1874)

He would later also become a leading figure in the Kamer de Eendracht (1876-1883), a transitional organization performing under the motto "Door Oefening wordt de kunst verkregen" ("art is attained through practice"), when internal strife arose in Aurora II. For them he wrote another play, De Testament, of De Halve Banknoot (1877).
