The Ability Festival was created to expand the conversation about ability/disability and inclusion in South Africa, through the arts. The festival also aimed to provide a platform for artists who are themselves disabled to showcase their talent.
Organised by The Chaeli Campaign[1], in association with the children and youth theatre organization ASSITEJ, at the Masque Theatre in Muizenberg from 4 to 7 March 2015.
The programme of the first festival included performances of the plays Warrior on Wheels (directed by Jayne Batzofin), In The Wings (directed by Philip Rademeyer of the Rust Co-Operative) and a collaborative performance by the Chaeli Dancers (comprising students in The Chaeli Campaign’s regular dance classes) and musician Natasha Meister.
