The Schoolmistress is a farce in three acts by Arthur Wing Pinero (1855-1934) [1].

The second of Pinero's farces specifically written for the Court Theatre in London, it was first performed there on 27 March, 1886, playing for 290 performances till January 22, 1887. It also became very popular on tour in England, America and the colonies.

Performance history in South Africa
1887: The play was performed in South Africa for the first time as part of the repertoire of the Wheeler Theatre Company when they played in the Theatre Royal, Cape Town during April and May. Probably directed by Sutton Vane.
