The Criterion, Durban
The Criterion in Durban was situated at the corner of Field Street and Esplanade, Durban, and had been built as a Bio-vaudeville (see also Music Hall). It opened on 20th May, 1912. A popular Durban venue, it was used by such illustrious South African companies as the Gwen ffrangçon-Davies / Marda Vanne Company, Munro-Inglis Company, Brian Brooke Company, the Natal Theatre Workshop Company and visiting companies such as the Old Vic Company.
It was demolished 1953.
