The original text
The play was originally written as a one-woman text using a series of slide-projections with voiceoviers. It then gradually developed into two-hander for two actresses.
Published in Black South African Women: An Anthology of Plays (compiled by Kathy A. Perkins[1] by Routledge in the USA in 1998, and by Juta and Company Ltd. in Cape Town, 1999. Also published in Kathy A. Perkins[2] (Ed.). 2009. African Women Playwrights, University of Illinois Press.
Translations and adaptations
Performance history in South Africa
1996: First performed by Chantal Snyman and directed by Lueen Conning, as a one-woman presentation at the Playhouse, Durban, as part of the Women's Festival and repeated there later the same year.
1998: Staged in September in the Pieter Roos Theatre at The Civic in Johannesburg, directed by Tina Johnson, with Lueen Conning and Crystal Tryon.
1999: Staged in June in The Arena at the Nico Malan Theatre, directed by Tina Johnson, with Chantal Snyman and Esmeralda Bihl. Designs by Michael Mitchell, lighting by Skip Wright.
2001: Staged in December in The Laager at the Market Theatre, directed by Tina Johnson, with Chantal Snyman, Crystal Tryon and Esmeralda Bihl.
2002: Staged in September in the Kwasuka Theatre in Durban, directed by Tina Johnson, with Chantal Snyman and Esmeralda Bihl.
2010: Staged in April at the Celebrating Writers From Africa and the Diaspora Festival in Illinois, USA, with the author, now known as Malika Lueen Ndlovu, and Chantal Snyman.
