On 4 and 5 March 1867 a Benefit Performance for the Somerset Hospital in Cape Town was arranged by the officers of the 9th Regiment, led by Captain Borton, and performed in the Theatre Royal in association with Mrs Marie Duret and Mrs Cooper. It also featured the regimental orchestra, led by Signor Bonicoli. The plays put on were Macbeth Travestie (Talfourd?) and Lend Me Five Shillings (Morton) on the 4th, and Shylock Burlesque (Talfourd?) and Slasher and Crasher (Morton) on the 5th.
Among the players involved were Captain Harvey, Mr Wavell and Mr Evans.
