The original text
A musical about the educational crisis faced by many black high-school pupils in South Africa, with music composed and arranged by the author. The piece uses music, dance and humour to comment on incorporates the themes of the depressed social conditions in informal settlements, interruptions in township education and political strife in and around Soweto in 1989
Translations and adaptations
In 1990 it was updated and renamed We are the Future.
Performance history in South Africa
1989: A production starring Thembsie Matu.
1990: Directed by Kente performed as We are the Future during the National Arts Festival (from 28 to 30 June) and at the Market Theatre Warehouse, starring Zakithi Dlamini.
