Starbrites is adult puppet play workshopped and written by Barney Simon in association with the Handspring Puppet Company.

The original text
The play was workshopped and written by Barney Simon, with the help of the Handspring Puppet Company. The story of a down-and-out musician, living in a Soweto shack, who has his spirit rekindled by the infectious optimism of his adoring young nephew from the country. The uncle and the nephew were human.
Starbrites was voted Production of The Year of A New South African Play by the Vita Awards panel.
Translations and adaptations
Performance history in South Africa
1990: First performed Upstairs at the Market in October, directed by Barney Simon with Fats Dibeco, Arthur Molepo and Doreen Mazibuko.
The play subsequently toured to summer festivals in London and the United Kingdom, Dublin in the Republic of Ireland and Copenhagen in Denmark.
