Active in Cape Town circa 1850s-1860s
Contribution to SA theatre, film, media and/or performance
The Cape Town Theatrical Club (later to become the Cape Town Dramatic Club) was founded under his auspices at Mr. Welch's residence in Buitekant Street, Cape Town, in 1857 or 1858. He was the first President of the club.
His South African Reminiscences (published in Cape Town in 1894) are an important source of information on the late 19th century theatre in Cape Town.
