Bergen en Dalen ("mountains and dales") is the Dutch version of an unnamed German play in two acts by Julius Roderich Benedix (1811-1873)[1]
Contents
The original text
The Dutch translation of the Benedix play was done by Jan Schuitemaker (fl. 1865). Published for the Rederijkers in Purmerende by Schuitemaker, 1861.
There is also an 18th century play in two acts called Bergen en Dalen Onmoeten Elkanderen Niet, Maar de Menschen Wel[2], ("mountains and dales do not meet each other, but people do"). This is apparently a Dutch version (by an anonymous translator) of an unnamed French play by Dortoit and Desforges (1746-1806)[3] (published by J.Sacre in Brussels). The relationship of this text to the Benedix work (if any) is uncertain.
