Das Taschenbuch ("The Notebook") is a German drama in three acts by by August Friedrich Ferdinand von Kotzebue (1761-1819)[1].

The original text
Based on a true anecdote about an occurrence between the Marquis Fouqué and the poet Petisson, play was performed at the Hoftheater nächst den Burg in Vienna (1817), the Königliche Schauspiele in Berlin (1818, 1820) and Königliches Hof- und National-Theater in München (1824).

Performance history in South Africa
1883: Performed in Dutch as Het Zakboek in the Oddfellows Hall, Cape Town, on 15 November by the Rederijkerskamer Aurora II, with Levend Verbrand (Leonard). (F.C.L. Bosman, 1980, wrongly calls it a play in five acts.)
