Alexander Wilmot (1836-1924) was a post master, historian, poet and playwright.
Also published as A. Wilmot.

Biography
He was a post master in Port Elizabeth.
Writing
Besides a number of reports, his South African publications included The Story of the Expansion of Southern Africa (), the History of the Colony of the Cape of Good Hope, (with John Centlivres Chase, 1869), History of the Cape Colony. For use in schools (1871), The History of the Zulu War (1880), The Poetry of South Africa (1887), Monomotapa (Rhodesia); its monuments, and its history from the most ancient times to the present century (1896) and The History of South Africa(1901).
Contribution to SA theatre, film, media and/or performance
He wrote the play The Treasure at the Woody Cape, or The Days of Ryk van Tulbach (performed in Port Elizabeth 1867, the text unpublished.)
