Arizona is an American play by Augustus Thomas (1857–1934)[1].

The original text

Considered one of Thomas's best works, it is a love story set in the Arizona Territory before the Spanish–American War of 1898. The play was produced by Kirke La Shelle and opened in Chicago at Hamlin's Grand Opera House on June 12, 1899.

Translations and adaptations

Sigmund Romberg adapted the play as an operetta called The Love Call[2], first performed at the Majestic Theatre, New York, from 24 October 1927 to 7 January 1928.

Performance history in South Africa

1904: First produced in South Africa at the Good Hope Theatre on 25 January, by the Frawley Company and a cast that included fine performances by Daniel Frawley and Mary van Buren.
