He was brought to Cape Town in 1904 for a season presented by The Wheeler Company in the Good Hope Theatre, appearing in Are You a Mason? (Laufs and Kraatz/Ditrichstein; opening 4 April), On and Off (Bisson/Farnie)and Husbands and Wives (Phillips and Fendall). Called a "leading light of the English stage" by Boonzaier (1928)
