The Arcadians is a fantastic musical play in three acts by Mark Ambient (1860-1937)[1] and A.M. Thompson (1861-1948)[2], with lyrics by Arthur Wimperis (1874–1953)[3] and music by Lionel Monckton (1861–1924)[4] and Howard Talbot (1865–1928)[5].


The original play

First produced by Robert Courtneidge at the Shaftesbury Theatre in London on 29 April 1909. Originally published in 1909 by Chappel.

Translations and adaptations

Performance history in South Africa

1910: Performed at the Opera House, Cape Town by The Wheeler Theatre Company in July with a revival towards the end of the same year.

1929: Performed at the Standard Theatre by the Johannesburg Operatic and Dramatic Society.
