Received his education at De Vos Malan High School and studied at Oudtshoorn Training College until he decided to discontinue his studies to join the Cape Regional Theatre.
He had roles in Die Jakkalsstreke van Scapino (NTO 1958), Ai, Die Liewe Martha! (1957), Anna Christie (as Johnny-the-Priest and Johnson), and Die Heks (as Kardinaal).
