Derek Wilson (1942-2017) was a Cape Town based journalist, theatre and film critic and arts editor


Biography

He started the Cape Argus as journalist, first as a court reporter, later as theatre and film reviewer and ultimately arts editor. In the course of time he gained a reputation for fearless and independent criticism.

He retired in 2007, and hardly attending anymore theatre, largely because of illness. He died in Cape Town in August 2017.


Contribution to SA theatre, film, media and/or performance

He reviewed theatre and film for the Cape Argus (1970s-) and Fine Music Radio (1990s-) and was a judge for the FNB Vita Awards as well as the Fleur du Cap Theatre Awards.
