Brother of Pikkie Uys.
A member of Ons Teatertjie-toneelgroep and Volksteater(?*), first appeared as actor in Terwyl daar Basaar gehou word (Marie Linde, 1936) for Ons Teatertjie.
As translator he translated G.B. Shaw's Pygmalion into Afrikaans as Koop my Blomme ("Buy my flowers"), performed in 1940.
