Barbarey und Grösse ("Cruelty and greatness") is a German tragedy in four acts by Friedrich Wilhelm Ziegler (between 1756 and 1761? - 1827)[1]

The original text

Published Vienna by Wallishausser, 1793

Translations and adaptations

Translated into Dutch as Wreedheid en Grootmoedigheid ("Cruelty and Kindness") and published by Jan Dóll, (wed.) Amsterdam, 1798

The title sometimes expanded to either Het Veemgerigt, of Wreedheid en Grootmoedigheid ("The Judiciary, or Cruelty and Kindness”) or Het Veemgericht, of Misdaad en Grootmoedigheid ("The Judiciary, or Crime and Kindness”). The terms "veemgerigt" and "veemgericht" seem to be interchangeable.
