Janot, ou Les Battus Paient l'Amende is a one act "comédie proverb" by Dorvigny (Louis-François Archambault)[1].
Contents
The original text
First performed at the Théâtre des Variétés Amusantes, Paris , June 1779. The original title, as published in 1779 by L. Jorry, was Les Battus Paient l'Amende, ou Ce Que l'on Voudra ("the beaten pay the fine, or what you will"), described as a one act "proverbe-comédie-parade". In later editions it became Janot, ou Les Battus Paient l'Amende ("Junot, or the beaten pay the fine"), the more familiar title.
