The original text
A play about "a small man with big dreams, a small brain and a head that's in danger of exploding." (National Arts Festival programme, 1997), Published in the collection Johnny Boskak is Feeling Funny and other plays (edited by Hazel Barnes) by the University of Natal Press in 2009. The play won the 1998 Vita Award as Best Script.
Translations and adaptations
Performance history in South Africa
1997: First performed in South Africa by Greig Coetzee (as Milton Leonardo van der Spuy) at the National Arts Festival, directed by Garth Anderson. Also performed at the Lincoln Centre, New York.
1998: Staged in the Baxter Theatre in March, and in the Theatre on the Square in July, performed by Greig Coetzee and directed by Garth Anderson. Also performed at the Wereldculturencentrum Zuiderpershuis in Antwerp, Belgium.
2000: Performed at the Edinburgh Festival (winner Fringe First and Stage Award for Best Actor)
2004: Performed at the National Arts Festival.
2006: Performed at the Carnival Centre, Miami
2009: Performed at the Hilton Arts Festival, Kwazulu-Natal.
