The original text
Originally written as a radio play (Dear Miester Mandela), it won the BBC's radio drama competition for the Africa and Middle East section in 1995.
Subject
The play is set in the time directly after South Africa's first democratic election in 1994 and the story is told by the 80-year old characters Martiens and Ragel who live and work on an ostrich farm in the Oudtshoorn area.

Performance history in South Africa
First staged by CAPAB at the KKNK in 1997, directed by Marléne Pieterse, with Vinette Ebrahim (Ragel) and Goliath Davids (Martiens).
