Most commonly known by its acronym, FUBA was founded in Johannesburg in 1978 by Benjy Francis, Sipho Sepamla and others to promote the arts among black South Africans. It was one of a number of arts and culture organizations associated with the Black Consciousness Movement in the 1970s-1980s. It became known as the Fuba Academy of Arts. Later the Fuba School Of Drama And Visual Arts and the Fuba School of Music.
