Rita Maas studied at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London in the late 1930s. She won the Anmer Hall and Forbes-Robertson Awards for best performances of the year and for speaking Shakespearean verse and was active in troop entertainment and took small parts in several George Formby and Arthur Askey films. Did broadcasting work in SA during World War II, due to the absence of professional theatre work.
