Nasionale Toneel Organisasie can refer to any of two theatre organizations created in South Africa.
Nasionale Toneel Organisasie (Pretoria, 1947-1961)
Often referred to by its acronym, NTO, this was the Afrikaans name for what was known in English as the National Theatre Organisation, the first state-funded theatre organisation in South Africa and in the British Empire. Replaced by the four Performing Arts Councils in 1962.
For full information on this company, see the entry on the National Theatre Organisation
Nasionale Toneel Organisasie (Goodwood, 2019-)
A privately owned Cape theatre production company, founded by Chris Lodewyk and Walter James Samuels on 4 November 2019 in Goodwood, Cape Town.
Address: 67 Hugo Street, Goodwood, 7460.
From the company website[1] we have the following conflicting information (translated from the Afrikaans):
The new NTO was established in 2015, will once again bring Afrikaans theatre to South Africa's cities and towns - especially to those places that have not enjoyed quality, live entertainment for years. The focus will be on AFRIKAANS THEATRE as we believe that theatre can and should play a huge role in the promotion and preservation of our language.
During 2017, a decision was made to also present musical productions in English in order to attract a wider audience to performances. During 2023, five such productions will be staged.
