Ellie Marx was the leader of the Cape Town Philharmonic Society Orchestra. Marx had succeeded Percy Ould (1868-1913) as the principal violin teacher in Cape Town. He had been a pupil of Eugene Ysaye (1858-1931), the world famous violinist, and had a superb violin technique as well as a distinguished platform appearance.
