It is based on Federico Fellini's screenplay for the 1957 Italian film Le notti di Cabiria (English: Nights of Cabiria).

1989: NAPAC production, directed by Terrence Shank as part of a triple bill of musicals. The other two productions were Sondheim’s Sweeney Todd and Leonard Bernstein’s Candide. Staged at The Drama, Natal Playhouse, Durban, from 7 July - 20 August 1989.
2003: Staged by the Port Elizabeth Gilbert & Sullivan Society in 2003.
