The US Woordfees (Lit. "US Word Festival") is an Afrikaans arts and culture festival, held in Stellenbosch annually.
Also known as the Afrikaanse Woordfees, often simply Die Woordfees or even Woordfees alone. On occasion the name of the sponsor is added (e.g. the US Toyota Woordfees)
The festival
Founded at the University of Stellenbosch ("US") Stellenbosch in 2000 on the initiative of Dorothea van Zyl to promote the written and spoken word in Afrikaans. Originally a one night event it soon blossomed into one of the biggest festivals in the country, running for a week.
