Biography

Born in the Orange Free State in 1945, he finished his schooling at Koffiefontein High School (1956 - 1962), then went to the University of the Orange Free State for a B.Com in Economics (1963-1967).

He initially entered the film industry as the financial and planning manager for Ster-Kinekor Films, completing a masters degree in business leadership at the University of South Africa in the same period (1969 - 1974). From there he moved on to become a major contributor to film and TV in South Africa, in a career that spanned more than five decades.

He passed away peacefully at his home in Cape Town on 30 September, 2024, having battled cancer for a while. He is survived by his wife Riana, five children, Gertruida, Michael, Mara-lee, Dries and Kristo and seven grandchildren.
