She started her primary school education in 1958, first in Aranos, Namibia, before transferring to the Elsburg Primary School in Johannesburg, which she completed in 1965. Biography

Hannalie van der Merwe was born in (town/city), the daughter of Reverend Ernst van den Berg and Jean de Villiers.
