Biography
Born of German parentage in Hermannsburg, Natal, and raised there. Having completed his matriculation in 1972, he did a Bachelor of Arts degree (majors: English and Sociology) at the University of KwaZulu-Natal (1975 - 1977). Over the years this base was enhanced by a number of courses in TV, management and presentations skills taken between 1979-2009.
After completing University moved to Johannesburg to to work for the Edgars group for two years, before joining the fledgling tv department of the SABC as a cameraman. In this Gauteng period he met and married Anja. The couple have two children, Myka and Kyle.
Having moved to Somerset West he for a time owned and ran a franchise Pizza take-way business, while still doing film and TV work with Welela Studios and his own company, To Go Productions.
Contribution to SA theatre, film, media and/or performance
Starting out as a video cameraman in the SABC television department he later became Promotion Department manager, producing on-air promotions (1982 - 2005). In those years he also worked on a selection of big budget variety and drama studio productions as well as producing and directing music videos.
He left the SABC and moved to Somerset West, to work independently, inter alia as a Producer/ director with Welela Studios (2006 - 2012) and To Go Productions (2009 -) on a diverse selection of television programmes - including Treasure Hunt, Whip the Chef, Eish Aids in SA, The World Cable Wakeboarding Championships and was and aas the Cape Producer for the SABC series TalkSA, and was the Cape Producer for the SABC series TalkSA.
Movies he worked on include 'n Saak van Geloof, Durban Poison, 100 Meter Leeu Loop, Double Echo.
