Acropolis Café is a play by Irene Stephanou


The original text

This is a partially autobiographical drama, that exlores the lives of the owners of a Greek Café, capturing a fast dying, but critical, piece of the social history and development of South Africa.

Translations and adaptations

The piece has adapted and broadcast as a radio play on a number of occasions.

Performance history in South Africa

2005: Performed at the Market Theatre, directed by Robert Colman with Robert Whitehead, Vanessa Cooke, Devlin Brown, Meme Ditshego, Benita Doria, Lebugang Inno, Bongani Msibi, Dan Robbertse and Brian Webber .
