National Opera Association of South Africa

Origins

Alessandro Rota was instrumental in the launch of the National Opera Association of South Africa.

Its aim was to encourage indigenous opera and ballet and to encourage South African artists to remain in the country. Opera in the Transvaal was dominated by this organisation and the Operavereniging van Suid-Afrika (Opera Society of South Africa) from 1956 until the formation of PACT in 1963.
