The Republic Festival is a national festival of activities, sports and arts to celebrate South Africa's political independence as a republic.
The first Republic Festival was held in 1966, to mark the fifth anniversary of the creation of an independent South African Republic. A second Republic Festival was held in 1971 to mark the 10th anniversary. A third Republic Festival was held in 1981 to mark the 20th anniversary.
