Biography
Born in Cape Town circa 1937, he grew up in Bishop Lavis
Contribution to South African theatre, film, media and performance
As teacher
He was a lecturer of music and drama and former and a founding member of SAADYT
As administrator
Organiser of the Student Drama, Grahamstown Festival (?* 199*-200*), Drama Manager of CAPAB, Director of the Tulbagh Festival, Executive Director of the Western Cape Theatre Company (2003-).
As adjudicator
In 1994 he was one of the judges for the Amstel Playwright of the Year Award, Judge for ATKV Tienertoneel, the Judge for the Nagtegaalprys for drama (2003, 2004).
As performer
As director
Peter directed:
- Nobody's Child, starring Christian Bennett and Jill Levenberg, presented at the Slave Church, Long Street, Cape Town.
- The Red Disa, starring Christian Bennett.
As playwright
Voges started writing plays late in life at the age of 79, producing three plays:
- Henrietta with Love (2015)
- Auntie Always Said (2016)
- One for the Road (2017?)
Awards, etc
In 2004, he was awarded the Western Cape Arts and Cultural Award for contributions to theatre.
He was nominated for a Standard Bank Ovation Award at the National Arts Festival in 2016.
In 2018, he was awarded the Nelson Mandela Flame Award for the best contribution to the Literary Arts, including poetry, prose and playwriting by the Western Cape Department of Arts and Culture.
