Victory is a play by Athol Fugard (1932-).

The original text

Victory is a play set in post-Apartheid South Africa. It depicts the attempted robbery of an elderly white man by two teenagers from the adjacent township. It is a play of both hope and hopelessness. First produced in 2007. Published by Dramatists Play Service Inc. 2009.

Translations and adaptations

Translated into Afrikaans by Idil Sheard with the title Victoria. The text published by Maskew-Miller Longman in 2009 and first performed in 2010.

Performance history in South Africa

2007: Staged at the KKNK, directed by Lara Foot-Newton, with Wayne van Rooyen (Freddie Blom), Ameera Patel (Vicky/Victoria Klaas) and Cobus Rossouw (Lionel Benson). The same production was later staged in the Laager at the Market Theatre in Cape Town.

2010: Victoria, the Sheard Afrikaans translation, was staged by Drama students from the University of Stellenbosch Drama Department at the Fugard Festival in Nieu Bethesda, directed by Zoettje Hofmeyr, with Pierre Nelson, Simone Benjamin and Ruan Cornelissen.
