Contents
The novel
“The Old Man and the Sea” was published in 1952, a dozen years after Hemingway’s most recent big success, “For Whom the Bell Tolls.” It won the Pulitzer Prize and was the catalyst for his Nobel Prize in 1954, but it turned out to be his last successful published novel before he killed himself nine years later.
Adaptations
A South African stage adaptation was done by Nick Warren in 2017. Using chorus, mask, physical performance, an innovative set and epic sound design, the performance gave the classic text a modern twist.
