Anton de Waal (1907-1974) South African songwriter, actor and playwright
(Apparently also known as A. de Waal, A. De Weel, A.De Waal, Anto DeWaal, Anton de Waal, Anton De Wall, Anton DeWaal, Antoon Dewaal, de Waal, De Waal, De Wall, Dewaal, Waal, depending on the source)
Born George Charles Gunn in 1914, but used the names Anton de Waal as nom de plume. Died December 21st, 1974.
In 1949 he was asked to set up a music publishing office for Trutone[] recording studio, by Arthur Harris.
He often collaborated with musician/composer Nico Carstens, producing some of Carsten's best known works. They also collaborated on two musicals, Sarie van Mooifontein, and Jannewariebaai (both co-created with Gilbert Gibson).
Co-wrote Die Dwarrelwind, a comedy in three acts, with [[]].
He donated an annual trophy for the best male actor on the Johannesburg and Pretoria stage (administered as part of the DALRO Awards).
