Originally written as an English radio play (Dear Miester Mandela), it won the BBC's radio drama competition for the Africa and Middle East section in 1995.

Subject

The play is set in the time directly after South Africa's first democratic election in 1994 and the story is told by the 80-year old characters Martiens and Ragel who live and work on an ostrich farm in the Oudtshoorn area.

Adapted as a stage play called Horiesô, Madiba ("listen here, Madiba") by the author.

Performance history in South Africa

1997: First staged by CAPAB Eastern Cape at the KKNK in 1997, directed by Marléne Pieterse, with Vinette Ebrahim (Ragel) and Goliath Davids (Martiens). The production was subsequently staged in Port Elizabeth.
