Brolloks en Bittergal is the name of a tale by C.J. Langenhoven (1873-1932).
The story has been adapted for stage and other media a number of times over the years. Among the adaptations have been:

Brolloks en Bittergal by Lizz Meiring and Hannes Muller
The original text
C.J. Langenhoven’s story was adapted as a pantomime by Lizz Meiring and Hannes Muller in 1998, with music by Didi Kriel and lyrics by Lizz Meiring and Didi Kriel.
Another version of the tale was written by Denene Erasmus for production by students of the Stellenbosch Drama Department in 2004.
Translations and adaptations
Performance history in South Africa
1998: Performed in Pretoria, directed by Lizz Meiring and Hannes Muller, msuical direction by Didi Kriel and choreography by Christopher Kindo.
1999: The same production performed at the Spier Arts Festival near Stellenbosch.
