E. Clifton (fl. 1870s) was a local amateur performer in Cape Town.


Biography

Contribution to SA theatre, film, media and/or performance

He is named as a member of the Le Roy and Duret company, performing Lucretia Borgia in Port Elizabeth and in Cape Town (1865, 1866).

He is also listed as a member of the Young Men’s Institute Amateur Christy’s in 1867-8 and was a leading member of the private (i.e. non regimental) concert company known as Amateur Coloured Troupe in the Minstrelsy[1] style popularized by the Christy Minstrels. They were active in Cape Town between 1869 and 1871.
