Daughter and eldest child of Judge Hendrik Stephanus van Zyl and Dorothy Constantia Sauer. Born in Cape Town in 1908, she showed literary talent, especially in poetry. Later mrs. Middlemiss

Besides three volumes of poetry, she wrote and published three one-act plays: The Willing Victim (1961), Women of Sola (1965) and The Unwilling Fighter (1976).
