My American Cousin, or A Slight Misunderstanding is a one act play said to be by "a Gentleman of Cape Town".

The original text
Described as "a Petite New Drama in 1 Act, written expressly for Mrs Tellett by A Gentleman of Cape Town". Unfortunately no further information is available on the play or the author, though it may possibly be the same unknown person who had written the one act farce, A Young Man in a Hurry, in 1858.
The play in turn may have been inspired by Taylor's popular three act play Our American Cousin (1858) or at least by the title of that play, unless it was a burlesque version of Taylor's work.
No text of the play seems to have been published.
