He also taught Competition Law to final year (FHS) and masters (BCL) students. At Cambridge, he was a fellow and director of studies in Law at Murray Edwards College (formerly New Hall). There he taught Civil Law I and II, Contract Law, the Law of Torts and English Legal History. At Magdalen, he was involved in the interview process, and, at Cambridge, for several years, he interviewed undergraduate applicants to Clare College and Murray Edwards College. Born in Stellenbosch he completed a Law degree from Stellenbosch University in South Africa and Oxford University and is an advocate at the Johannesburg Bar.

Jean Meiring is a practising advocate at the Johannesburg Bar, where he is a member of Group621.
