My Wife's Out

My Wife's Out is a farce in one act by G. Herbert Rodwell (George Herbert Buonaparte Rodwell, 1800-1852)[1].

The original text

First performed in London at the Theatre Royal Covent Garden, London, on 2 October, 1843, and was most probably published in the same year, with 10 editions being published between 1843 and 2019 (according to WorldCat Identities).

The most widely held early version text was published by John Dicks (as No. 699 of Dicks' Standard Plays) in one volume with Borrowing a Husband, or Sleeping Out by William T. Moncrieff (1794-1857)[], in 1885(?).

Performance history in South Africa

1862: Performed as My Wife's Out by Clara Tellett and her company in the Theatre Royal, Cape Town, on 7 August, with The Pilot, or A Tale of the Sea (Cooper/Fitzball).
