The original text
The play revolves around a schoolboy's end-of-year prank and is set at Lakeview School.
Originally performed, with a partially different cast under the title Gwendoline, at the Salisbury Playhouse on 27 October, 1958. In 1959 it opened in London under its present title at the Piccadilly Theatre, London. Published by Evans Bros. in the same year..

1962: Performed as Caught Napping by The Grey Players (all pupils at the Grey High School) in the De Waal Hall, Port Elizabeth from 1-5 May. Produced by Jacques van Onselen.
