Pride and Prejudice is the title of an immensely famous novel by Jane Austen (1775-1817)[1].

A three act play by London-born Australian dramatist Helen Jerome (1883-1958) [2], based on the novel.

The original text

Described as "A Sentimental Comedy Written in Three Acts", it was performed on Broadway in 1935, featuring Adrienne Allen, an English actress, as Elizabeth Bennet. Published by Samuel French.

Performance history of all versions of Pride and Prejudice in South Africa

1938: The Jerome text was presented by the University of Cape Town's Speech and Drama Department at the Little Theatre in June, directed by George Vollaire.
