Biography

Contribution to SA theatre, film, media and/or performance

He was apparently a theatre lover and while in charge of the H.M.S. Penelope during its sojourn in Simon's Town, he and the crew members instigated the construction (or at least fitting up) of the short-lived Simon's Town Theatre in 1856 and were also responsible for the first performances given there, including Talfourd's Travestie of Macbeth and The Wandering Minstrel (Mayhew).
