Michael practised as a lawyer before trying his hand at advertising promotion work, interior decorating and acting.

Contribution to SA theatre, film, media and/or performance

His CAPAB productions include Mother Courage, Lovers, The Circus Adventure, The King Stag, King Lear, Story Theatre, Romeo and Juliet (CAPAB 1972), Miss Julie (1973), London Assurance (January 1974) and A Doll's House (1975).

Understudy in the CAPAB production of The Game of Kings (1974).

Performed in Enemy – An Anti-War Collage, Othello Slegs Blankes and The Final Heir (1972) at The Space in the 1970s.

He acted in and co-directed Julius Ceasar, Grahamstown Festival 1984.

He directed The Storyteller (1984), Diary of a Madman (2001).

Michael played the role of Harold Smythe in the feature film Fatal Mission released in 1990.
