First performed at the Royal Grecian Theatre, London, on 11 October 1858 and published as Volume 571 of Lacy's acting edition in 1858 by T.H. Lacy. Later also as issue 39 of Ames' series of standard and minor drama by the Ames' Publishing Company in 1871,

Performance history in South Africa
1875: Performed as Life's Revenge by the Disney Roebuck company in the Bijou Theatre, Cape Town on 3 July, with Ben Bolt (Johnstone).
